Thinker
Shel Silverstein is a thinker, when he was young he could have played with children his age, but instead he decided to write poetry and not being familiar with any poets or techniques, he started to create his own technique. When he was 12 years old of course he couldn't have understood the complex ways of writing poems, so he did them as he understood and liked, simple, easy to understand, and funny. Throughout all of his poetry career he used that same technique. He wrote about the most utterly random things, which seemed to please the children and their parents.
Risk Taker
Alice~
She drank from a bottle called DRINK ME
and she grew so tall.
She ate from a plate called TASTE ME
and down she shrank so small.
And so she changed, while other folks
... Never tried nothin at all.
He originally wrote this poem, showing that he believes that if you don't try or take a shot at anything, you won't gain anything either. What that means is that when you dare to try something, you will either gain something or lose something, either way it's in your favor. If you gain something, great! If you lose something, you will learn from that experience.

Communicator
Shel Silverstein was also a communicator, because he creatively expressed his idea's, and made them very easy to understand, as if talking to a 4th grader. His own unique style of writing is the way he communicates with his audience, as assuming his audience is made up of both kids and adults. In 7th grade he openly shared his writings with his friends and family, showing that he was very confident in his work.
Community and Service
Shel Silverstein served in the Armed Services of the United States, during the 1950s Koren War. Proving that he did indeed care for his community and serviced the people of his nation. Military service: US Army (drafted 1953, served in Japan and Korea.)
